The spring months have arrived, and with them will come better weather, greener pastures and more sunlight. After the last two years, the sense of renewal that this spring promises will certainly be greater than in the past. With Covid-19 becoming something we must coexist with in our lives, I hope this spring will allow us to return to the places, things and people we love.

Many of us have felt grief and loss during the pandemic, and the ability to get back to where we were may seem difficult. As the world shakes off another cold winter, remember to continue practicing self-care in order for hope, patience and positivity to keep blossoming.

Here are some ways to practice self-care during the warmer season:

  • Spend more time outdoors: Whether you’re working at a site, at an office or traveling inbetween, try to incorporate the outdoors into your work routine. Open the windows, eat your lunch outside. Go for a walking break, and absorb some vitamin D. Fresh air does wonders for the body and soul.
  • Incorporate natural light into your workspace: Natural light is key to maintaining a healthy eyesight and mind. If you are working at a site supporting people, find places to gather where natural light filters in. If you are working at a desk, find a place where there is access to natural light and that allows you to work comfortably.
  • Meet up with coworkers in-person: Consider scheduling a meetup, or make plans to meet co-workers and grab lunch somewhere. It will feel really good to make that human connection again.
  • Book a staycation: Take time off from the daily grind and reconnect with the things and people you care about. It’s important to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Spring has sprung, and with the warmer weather comes more ways to improve your mental health and reconnect with the things that make you happy.  Enjoy the sunshine!
