SESSION I – THE RIGHT TALENT, RIGHT NOW SYMPOSIUM

October 24, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Please join us as Heritage Christian Services and over 20 community partners host  The Right Talent, Right Now: Improving Business and Health Outcomes through Workforce Diversity Symposium. This event occurs during National Disability Employment Awareness Month and includes education and resources to help businesses – for profit and not-for-profit – advance their equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The morning session is designed for funders, executives and board members and will focus on two reports. The first report is by the Building Movement Project, called the Race to Lead, which builds off of research that uncovered a lack of representation and influence by target population members in leadership roles and board governance, plus shortfalls in professional development pathways.  The second report is: Employment of People with Disabilities: Identifying Barriers and Creating Opportunities, which explores the demographics and disparities of people with disabilities in Rochester and Monroe County. This session will feature corporate and organizational leaders who have implemented initiatives that address equity, diversity and inclusion from the top down.

Please note: The session registration link above will take you to the GVC SHRM homepage, the event registration is located on the left of the screen.

The afternoon event is for human resource leaders and staff recruiters will offer strategies for attracting, retaining and advancing diverse talent. We will discuss resources available to companies who hire diverse populations including: veterans, people with disabilities, refugees and other populations who often face barriers to obtaining and maintaining employment. In addition, we will explore improving employee retention through job coaching, adaptive equipment, and supports that mitigate emergencies related to child care and transportation. This program has been pre-approved for 2.5 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) by the Society for Human Resource Management and 2.5 HR (General) credits by the HR Certification Institute.
